# Clean Titles

Tidy up job titles and hiring titles on a list in one click. Free.

Job titles that come from LinkedIn or a job board arrive messy, and the messy version is what ends up in your email:

* `Marketing Director at North River Boats | Passionate about growth`
* `Vice President Of Sales`
* `Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Intern - Summer 2027`

There are two cleaners, and both are **free**. They follow fixed rules. There is no AI and no lookup, so there is nothing to pay for.

| Cleaner                 | What it changes                                                        |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Clean Titles** | The contact's own job title (the Title column). |
| **Clean Hiring Titles** | The job the contact's company is hiring for (the Hiring title column). |

## How to run it

1. Open your list.
2. Set the view, search or filters you want. The cleaner only runs on the rows you can see.
3. Click **Add enrichment**.
4. Pick **Clean Titles** or **Clean Hiring Titles**.
5. Confirm. It runs in the background, and the column updates as it goes.

You can run both on the same list.

## Clean Titles

It cuts the LinkedIn headline text after the title, drops the company name and emojis, fixes broken characters and fixes capital letters.

| Before                                                               | After                   |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------- |
| `Marketing Director at North River Boats \| Passionate about growth` | Marketing Director |
| `Vice President Of Sales`                                            | Vice President of Sales |
| `Staff Accountant Ii`                                                | Staff Accountant II     |
| `I help business owners grow their revenue` | Left as it was |

A headline with no job title in it (like "I help business owners...") is left exactly as it was. Rows with no LinkedIn profile URL are skipped.

## Clean Hiring Titles

It drops bracketed text, job numbers and extras after the title. A department after a dash is kept.

| Before                                                         | After                                     |
| -------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| `Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Intern - Summer 2027`    | Financial Planning & Analysis Intern      |
| `Senior Performance Auditor (Performance Auditor II)`          | Senior Performance Auditor                |
| `Oracle Fusion ERP and EPM Functional Lead – Record to Report` | Oracle Fusion ERP and EPM Functional Lead |
| `Vice President - Sales`                                       | Vice President, Sales                     |

Once it has run, the leads table, Flows and Smartlead all show the clean hiring title.

## It replaces the title, it does not add a column

Both cleaners write over the existing column rather than adding a new one. That way Smartlead, HubSpot and your other integrations pick up the clean title with no extra setup.

**Your original is not lost.** It is kept behind the scenes, and a later run reads from it. So if we improve the rules, running it again picks up the improvement.

{% hint style="info" %}
Not sure what it will do to your data? Every row gets a note in its log saying what changed and why, so you can check a handful before running the rest. Want the same thing through the API? See the [developer docs](https://developer.parvenu.io/enrichments/normalize-titles).
