# Custom Columns

Add your own columns to a list and fill them in.

A custom column is a column you add to one list yourself: a tier, a score, a note, a "done" box. You fill it in, and it goes out with every download.

## Column types

| Type               | What goes in it                                        | Good for                                 |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------- |
| **Text**           | Any text.                                              | Notes, summaries, descriptions           |
| **URL**            | A link. Click the cell to open it.                     | Booking pages, CRM records               |
| **Checkbox**       | Ticked or not.                                         | Contacted, Do not call, run a Flow on it |
| **Select**         | One choice from a list you set.                        | Account Tier, Segment, Stage             |
| **Multi-select**   | Any number of choices from a list you set.             | Tags, products they use                  |
| **Number**         | A number.                                              | Lead score, revenue, time in minutes     |
| **Date**           | A date, or a date and time, with an optional end date. | Follow-up date, event dates              |
| **Image from URL** | A link to a picture. The cell shows the picture.       | Logos, headshots                         |

## Add a column

1. Go to your [Lists](https://app.parvenu.io/app/lists) page and open a list.
2. Click **Add column** above the table.
3. Give it a name and pick a type.
4. For **Select** and **Multi-select**, type the choices.
5. Click **Add**.

The column shows up on this list only. A list can have up to 50 custom columns. A name can't be one Parvenu already uses, like Email or Title.

## Fill in a cell

Click a cell in the column and type, or pick from the choices. A **Checkbox** ticks with one click.

You can also fill a column without the table:

* **Flows.** The **Set a Custom Column** step fills a column for every lead in a run, with fixed text or a value from an earlier step. See [Conditions, Control and Transforms](/features/flows/conditions-control-and-transforms.md#set-a-custom-column).
* **API.** Send `custom_fields` on [Update a Contact](https://developer.parvenu.io/manage-lists/update-a-contact).
* **Claude.** Ask Claude to add or fill a column, for example "Add a Tier column to my Roofers list and mark the top 10 as Tier 1". See [Claude](/features/integrations/claude.md).

## Split into views

On a **Select** column, open the column's menu and click **Split into views**. Parvenu makes one [saved view](/features/lists/saved-views.md) for each choice, so you can jump straight to, say, everyone in Tier 1.

## Edit or delete a column

Open the column's menu and click **Edit column**.

* **Rename it.** Every cell keeps its value.
* **Rename a choice.** Every cell with that choice changes too.
* **Remove a choice.** Cells with that choice are emptied.
* **Change the type.** Only while the column is empty.
* **Delete it.** The column and every value in it are gone. This can't be undone.

## Filter and sort

Custom columns work in the table's filters, sort and search like any other column. Select columns let you pick the choice in the filter.

## Downloads

Every download includes your custom columns, one column each:

* **Download** in the table, and the CSV on the Lists page
* **Export to Google Sheets** from the table
* A shared list link, and its download
* The API and Claude list download
* A Flow run's download

A checkbox comes out as `true` or `false`, a multi-select as `A, B`, and a date range as `2026-10-20 to 2026-10-22`.
